Candida can begin as a simple yeast infection, but can lead to a serious illness or condition. Candida can become an overgrowth very easily, as sometimes it is hard to diagnose.

Candida can be very difficult to diagnose.  You may experience many different symptoms, which could be attributed to something else.  If you have a missed diagnosis, you may have an overgrowth of yeast.

Candida can cause serious problems if it is not taken care of.

Candida bacteria can lead to an overgrowth, which leads to many health problems.  Candida can decompose the cell membranes within your body.  In turn, this can weaken your immune system, which creates problems for your general health.

A long term infestation of yeast, can allow the fungus to develop roots and actually implant into the intestinal wall.  This can develop into a yeast syndrome affecting all of the body’s systems.  Some of these problems include:

  • Acne or psoriasis
  • Allergies
  • Diabetes
  • Digestive disorders including weight gain, gas, bloating, colitis
  • Ear infections
  • Emotional upsets and depression
  • Energy imbalances or insomnia
  • Hormonal problems
  • Hyperactivity/Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Lung problems
  • Obesity
  • Pollen allergies
  • Reproductive organ disorders
  • Sensitivities to foods, chemicals, and/or molds
  • Susceptibility to viruses, bacterial, and other infections
  • Thyroid

It has also been studied and believed that a Candida overgrowth can lead to the onset of chronic illnesses such as chronic fatigue symptom, fibromyalgia, Epstein-Barr virus, lupus, multiple sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer’s, Crohn’s disease, arthritis, cancer, and autism.

Candida can make your regular condition worse.  Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a bowel disorder of the gastrointestinal tract, in which you have recurrent abdominal pain and discomfort.  Candida will take advantaged or your weakened system.  The yeast ferments in your intestines, causing gas and irritations of the stomach lining.

Candida can be responsible for chronic sinusitis.  Sinusitis is an inflammation of the membranes of the nose and sinuses.  This inflammation can be caused by fungus and molds that we breathe in.  In a study by the Mayo Clinic, it showed that individuals with sinusitis may have 40 different kinds of fungus in their nasal passages.

There are some studies that show a link of autism with Candida.  Some of the behavior problems which have been linked to an overgrowth of Candida albicans include: confusion, hyperactivity, short attention span, lethargy, irritability, and aggression.  These are also similar symptoms to autism and attention-deficit disorder.

Thrush is a Candida yeast overgrowth that occurs in your mouth.  If you have thrush, you may also have bloating, skin rashes, genital rashes or signs of an infection.  A common sign of thrush is a creamy, white substance or lesions on your tongue or inner cheeks.  You may develop lesions on the roof of your mouth, tonsils or back of your throat.  These lesions may lead to pain and problems swallowing. To treat thrush, you will be given an antifungal medication.
