To ensure a healthy colon, the most important thing for your diet is fiber. Fiber can help with digestion and help ensure regular bowel movements, which leads to a clean colon.

Fiber is naturally occurring in many foods.

One of the most fiber-filled foods is whole grains.  There are many foods that can contain whole grains.  These include whole wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice and whole grain cereals.  You can also eat peanuts, rice cakes, sunflower seeds or beans.  These foods all contain fiber and are also healthy.

The whole word is growing green, so why not make your diet green.  Green vegetables are the best way to keep your colon toxin free.  Green vegetables can include spinach, peas, lettuce and cabbage.  Along with these green vegetables, you can eat barley, which is fiber filled.  Barley can be added to many foods or you can enjoy a barley soup.

As with all diets and healthy suggestions, water is vital.  You should drink at least 8 glasses a day of water.  Water has many benefits.  It can prevent constipation, help with digestion, provide clear skin and help keep your colon clean.  Along with water, fruit juices are good for colon health.  They provide the body with necessary vitamins and can help with waste elimination.  You should substitute juice for your daily coffee or pop.

Along with your vegetables, fruits are important.  Apples, grapes, melons or other water-based fruits can help remove toxins from your body, in term keeping your colon cleansed. If you are doing an overall colon cleanse, you usually will limit your diet to only fruits and vegetables.

Of course, there are foods you should avoid.  The two substances that cause the biggest problems are meat and refined sugar.  Meat is high in fat and can have excess hormones, all of which can slow the natural functioning of the colon and the digestive system.  Further, meat takes much longer to digest than grains, fruit and vegetables.  Because of this, it sits in the intestines and colon longer, putrefying and causing digestive issues.

Refineda sugar is usully found in conjunction with refined flour and processed foods.  This can cause a back up in the digestive system instead of speeding its movement. If you want to cleanse your colon, you should avoid red meat and refined sugar during the cleansing process.

A sample colon healthy diet would be as follows:

Breakfast:  Stick with fruits.  The fruits have a high fiber content and are filled with water.

Lunch and Dinner:  Two suggestions are:  Grilled chicken with steamed carrots, green and red peppers and cucumbers or you can try steak with green beans and salad.

As for liquids, don’t forget your water, eight glasses per day.
